British Press Photographers' Association

Founded in 1984 by UK press photographers to promote ethical, technical and creative standards, the British Press Photographers' Association (BPPA) represents newspaper, magazine and agency photographers.

It raises awareness of the industry by publishing and exhibiting members' work.

Activities

After a hiatus of several years, the association has become more active recently. Its website has a freelance directory, member galleries, and descriptions of all its projects including the UNSEEN exhibition (2003) of never-before-seen news photographs, now in book form (but a small selection is still online).

Press Cards

If you're a bona fide, full time news photographer you can apply to the BPPA for a press card. It is a member of the United Kingdom Press Card Authority (UKPCA)."
