Norton Ghost

Norton Ghost backs up to nearly all media including CDR/RW and DVD+-R/RW drives, USB and FireWire devices and Iomega Zip and Jaz drives. It detects storage devices automatically, analyzes your system, and even gives advice about "best practice" while it is being installed.

Among its key features are backup encryption, automatic monitoring and optimization of backup disk space, and an informative interface for easy configuration and management. It works particularly well with Maxtor (Seagate) external drives, via the Maxtor OneTouch button interface.

Comment

You do not often see products reach the magic Version 14.0, but Norton Ghost is an exception. With such a long history it ought to be good -- and is. Easy to install and configure, it shows all scheduled backups in a single view so that you can compare the relative protection level given to each device. One new feature is FTP backup: it copies recovery points to an FTP site for easy offsite backup management. The simple "Back Up Now" button gives you backup on demand. Alas, it is PC only.
