SilverKeeper
SilverKeeper is a free, basic Macintosh backup utility that is still used by many photographers even though it has been overtaken in facilities by other software from Apple and LaCie alike. It allows you to make a bootable backup to any removable storage device using a FireWire, USB, IDE, ATA or SCSI interface. It was not designed originally to burn DVDs, although this can be done indirectly with another application if you select folders and do not attempt to backup over multiple disks. It has automatic scheduling.
Comment
If all you want is simple backup, this can still meet your needs if you are running an older (pre-Leopard) Mac OS. It will not back up over a network, but you can schedule days or times for backup of your hard disk (which the vendor expects will be a LaCie hard disk) with full automation.
