PhotoRescue

PhotoRescue can recover data from SD cards, CompactFlash, Memory Sticks, Microdrive and other media. It is available in three alternative versions: Wizard, Expert and Advanced. The Wizard version is easiest to use, while the Expert is for "power users" and Advanced has more features. The Advanced version adds interactivity and visual feedback to the data recovery process and allows you better control of the defragmentation process.

PhotoRescue displays thumbnail previews of the images it recovers, then saves them to a location of your choice. Its algorithms are optimized for JPEG, TIFF, GIF and BMP files, but it also supports RAW files such as CRW, NEF, ORF, and MRW together with many types of movie files.

Comment

First introduced in 2001, PhotoRescue is a widely used and thoroughly proven product. It won "Best Product" award in the Dutch "Personal Computer Magazine," (May 2003), since when it has been improved and upgraded. It was also reviewed in depth by Imaging Resource (www.imaging-resource.com) who found it "hard to beat," and called it "our hands-down favorite."

You get a year of free updates when you buy PhotoRescue; there are no media size limits, no recovery limits and no expiring license. A key feature is the way it generates previews on the fly from actual card data rather than showing you the small embedded thumbnails -- as many "free demo" data recovery packages do. It's highly recommended.
