Fotomatic
Fotomatic is a selection of 8 plugins simulating traditional photographic effects. They include:
- Hi-Spot, for converting to high contrast black-and-white
- G-Force, creates traditional monochromatic grain effects
- Techni-X, high-contrast B&W with bleach-out of mid-tone grays
- NightScope, a desaturated, slightly blurred "night-vision" effect
- Pseudo-IR, to simulate the look of infra red film
- SkyGrad, for tinting the sky in your photographs
- BW-Plus, quickly turn your images into black-and-white
- FastFix, quick access to enhancement controls though a single dialog
Comment
Fotomatic is a useful collection aimed at digital beginners who may be more familiar with film techniques. Steve Upham's plugins often turn up on photo magazine CDs in the UK. As he admits, they run better on PC than Mac, having been created on the PC platform "using a more advanced compiler."
Fotomatic is a series rather than a collection and you need to download each one separately. The filters are offered freely, in the expectation that the user may be inspired to purchase Colour Studio, another 5-plugin selection devoted to color modification effects (see that entry).
