RealGrain

RealGrain imitates the grain patterns, color and tonal response of different film stocks. It takes account of the size of the image, so that the grain size is proportional to it. It comes with an extensive library of popular color and black-and-white films, options for adding tints using the Grain Balance controls, plus full adjustment for hue, saturation, and brightness.

Because it has a versatile Color Filter simulation tool for B&W photography, RealGrain can also convert color images to black-and-white. You can add traditional tones to the image, such as Sepia, Platinum, and others, with full control over the way they affect highlights and shadows.

There is 8 and 16-bits per channel support, batch processing via Photoshop Actions, and support for RGB, Lab, and (single channel) CMYK.

Comment

Most reviewers have praised RealGrain highly, mentioning how easy it is to get to grips with it. It has a particularly generous list of film stocks, catering for most tastes. For graphic designers who want to create a "retro look" from a modern photograph it has the tools for creating professional quality output.
