SizeFixer
SizeFixer is an image rescaler that enlarges images for printing without loss of sharpness. It comes in several editions:
- SizeFixer SLR, for enlarging images up to 68 megapixels
- SizeFixer XL, for enlarging to 500 megapixels and beyond
- SizeFixer Home, for doubling/quadrupling the number of pixels from compact cameras
SizeFixer works on both 8-bit (24-bit RGB) and 16-bit (48-bit RGB) images and uses what the vendor calls "Super-Resolution Technology" to enlarge while preserving fine detail. The Home version is useful to enlarging images from compact cameras and cameraphones, giving you up to 16 megapixels for prints measuring just over 11 x 8.5 inches.
Comment
SizeFixer is the vendor's flagship product: standalone software that "up-rezzes" for printing more effectively than any standard image editor, including Adobe Photoshop. It is one of the most effective rescalers currently available. Macworld mentioned its relative slowness at the time of its launch, but the latest Mac version is now Universal Binary and up to 10 times faster than before. The same magazine gave it a glowing review for the quality of its output.
SizeFixer uses the LensFIT technology that is also available in the vendor's plugins (FixerBundle) to customize sharpening for the particular camera used for taking the original. It preserves an exceptional level of detail, making it ideal for anyone preparing exhibition-quality prints.
