Pure Starter Toolkit
From Canadian developer ImmerVision, Pure Starter Toolkit has been designed with the objective of making panoramic publishing easier and quicker. It is a suite of products that contains all the tools you need for editing and publishing panoramic (but not making) images. It has 5 different modules: Panorama Image Extractor, Panorama FileMaker, Lensflare Creator, Package Maker and Package Crypter.
Panorama Image Extractor extracts panoramic images created in formats such as IMP, ImmerVision IVP, or QTVR JPEG.
Panorama FileMaker generates IVP and QTVR file formats from images in cubical, cylindrical or spherical formats. It accepts spherical, cylindrical and cubical projection JPEGs and TIFFs as well as QuickTime VR JPEGs (cylindrical and cubical). Its editing functions allow you to calibrate the angle limits of the projection, define an entry point and the panorama's field of view (FOV) limits, create an automatic horizontal movement, block the nadir and zenith, and add metadata with author, copyright and licensing information.
Lensflare Creator adds drama by creating flare effects when a light source appears in the camera's field of view. It has 16 customizable halo effects.
Package Maker puts the files together so that they are compatible with the vendor's PURE Player viewing software, optimizing them for the fastest possible downloads over the web.
Package Crypter protects the files with simple, localized or temporal encryption.
Comment
Pure Starter Toolkit is a publishing toolkit, not an image creation kit. It prepares immersive VR images for display, and does it very well. In fact, with its five modules, it is exceptionally good value.
Java-based VR gives the smoothest and most rewarding viewing experience. Download times are very reasonable, especially now that most people have broadband connections.
