JAlbum
JAlbum is a popular (and FREE) program that lets you create and share customized photo albums. The user can post the album to any web site -- or to yourname.jalbum.net -- together with text and comments.
JAlbum software provides color themes, layouts, picture and thumbnail sizes, music, and the method of navigation. An Explorer-like interface makes it easy to find your images then place them using drag-and-drop tools. You can also edit comments, rotate images and run slide shows directly from your local hard disk.
To the albums you can add any file type, not just images, together with icons to link to the appropriate resource on the user's computer (such as a PDF reader for PDF files). It also lets you plug in image filters to add watermarks and logos, while Exif and IPTC support are standard.
Comment
Users have published around 20 million albums with JAlbum. The fact that it's free may account for some of its popularity, but not all of it. It is easy to learn, looks better on a PC than on Mac, and has templates that are considered by some to be better than its interface (although this has been improved).
JAlbum is presented in a very professional way and has succeeded in acquiring a large community of enthusiastic users. They particularly like the way it allows you to make your own "skins" (graphics that frame the image) and the way it provides Jalbum widgets to enhance the functionality of their sites.
