PosterJet

PosterJet is a very fast software RIP that processes as it prints. It handles 12-color printing on both the H-P Designjet Z-series and Canon's imagePROGRAF series. The vendor claims it to be the fastest RIP software in the world. It achieves its high-speed capability by being able to process and print at the same time, working on a line-by-line basis while managing color and interpolating the data.

One of the key features of PosterJet is its full cross-platform capability, being able to print in mixed Mac OS X and Windows environments. Designed for a production environment it has excellent job-handling facilities with a high degree of automation. It offers full support for ICC color management, yet requires practically no training. Printer linearization is automatic with the firm's Intelli-Lin technology. It supports more than 200 graphics file formats and according to the vendor takes only 7 seconds to print (i.e., to start printing), whatever the format.

Comment

Being able to "RIP-on-the-fly" makes PosterJet particularly speedy. Recent versions are much easier to use than previously. It is aimed primarily at corporations and large institutions, but many small design bureaus, advertising agencies, photographic studios and print shops are also using it successfully. Kall Kwik in London uses it with Canon and HP printers.

The latest version of PosterJet can print on multiple printers simultaneously owing to the vendor's new SimuPrint technology.
